Unit 9 Blog

I have enjoyed learning what I have in this class thus far. Now that it has come to an end I have realized how to make my writing more professional. The one thing that will stick with me is the over usage of propositions and the have verbs (I think that's what they are called!). I didn't realize how much we use them and how different a paragraph can sound when the propositions and have verbs are removed. There are other topics that I would like to research. One topic is concerning preterm babies. It is amazing the way preemies lives are being saved compared to the death rate of preemies about a decade ago. I would want to research the treatment and processes being carried out to help save their lives. That would be a great topic I think.

Unit 8 Blog Post

This has been the first time I have created a blog or blogged at all for that matter! I may continue it but I may do a separate one for family and friends. I cannot complain about the lack of comments I have received because I really haven't commented on any of my peers blogs. In fact, half of the blogs I haven't even reviewed. I am very happy to have been introduced to the world of blogging. I feel that in this day and age, if you are not up-to-date on the technology that is surrounding us and is up and coming, you will be left behind to fend for yourself. It's a sad but true thing. There are some who accept change can can flow with it and then there are are those, namely the elderly, who see no need to change from the original. Some of them have no choice but to change because technology has taken control. An example is regular television. Recently, the change was made that everyone needed a digital converter box in order watch regular tv. Rabbit ears are no longer in. Can you believe that. People are being made and forced to come to some acceptance of technology changes! What a funny thing that is to me! I would like to hear some of your point of views on this. Please comment!

Peer Reviews. The only experience I have had with a peer review was when I was interviewing for my current job. It was a very nerve-racking time in my life! I interviewed with the manager and passed the on-the-spot test she gave me. Afterward, she informed me that I have been picked for a second interview of which was a peer review. She explained that I would sit in front of selected employees, a copy of my resume would be provided for each one of them, and they will take turns asking me questions. I was so nervous. Needless to say, I have been employed there since 02/2009 and very recently applied for and received a promotion and raise in salary! I am so happy that I didn't shut down or take the criticism I received to heart. Everyone has their own opinions. What matters is the way you take constructive criticism and the what you do with it. I bettered myself with what criticism I received. What will you do?

Unit 6 Blog Post

It really has been a challenge trying to complete my rough draft on a 3-day holiday weekend! What makes it worse is my children and I have traveled to North Carolina and we have never been here before. It is very hard to concentrate on school work being in a new environment.
I didn't put too much thought into my topic being influential in future research. People have had the notion that breastfeeding is overall the best way to provide food for their baby. Since my opinion is not to be put in my paper I will give it right now. My topic is The Promotional Effects of Breastfeeding. My thesis is: Many encourage and promote breastfeeding because it may have an effect on a child's intellect, nutrition, and bond with its mother. In my opinion, though I do believe that breastfeeding should always be considered, I don't believe it should be pushed on women. They should be encouraged to do it but if someone is pushed so much at something eventually they will not want to do it. Think of a new mother who is so excited that she will be having a baby. She has no idea of the fatigued she will experience after labor and then the work she will have to endure once she gets home to care for a helpless little infant. She will be looking for ways to take it easy in caring for her newborn. Now, if she has been pushed so much at the hospital to breastfeed, that probably will be the first thing to go out the window once she is discharged home.
I think that women should consider breastfeeding and even though I do believe it is the best choice for a developing baby, it is up to that mom to decide. There are also exceptions, medically, where a mom cannot breastfeed. What if a mom had a normal pregnancy with no complications but then a problem arises in the infant after birth that prevents mom from being able to hold her child or be able to breastfeed, it would be depressing to her. Women should be given a choice and should not be penalized for choosing not to breastfeed. With the many formulas available that promote the same nutrients as breast milk, that child will have the same opportunities as a breastfed child in life.

Unit 5 Blog Post

So far school has been very influential in my life. It is hard because I am a single mother of 5 and I work full time but it has kept me on my toes and it is a constant reminder that even though I have all these things going on around me, I can do it! The biggest motivation is the fact that I have the potential to graduate in the coming year. My parents didn't graduate from or even attend college and this will be a huge accomplishment and make me a gem in my children eyes when I walk across that stage with my degree in my hand! I have a lot of family and friends rooting for me. They won't allow me to quit and there have been plenty of times that I have wanted to do that. It helps to know that my instructors can relate to some of my situations and will allow some leeway to assist me when I am late with an assignment. I haven't had an instructor that have been rude or mean. They all deal with the same issues and private lives as we, the students, have to deal with and that is very encouraging to know.

Unit 4 Blog Post

What would I do if someone used something I created without giving me credit? I would probably get angry! I write poetry, occasionally, and I would not a happy camper if it took me hours, days, or months to come up with the perfect poem only for someone to steal it and put their name on it. I have not (knowingly) been a victim of or contributor to plagiarism. I think people use it as a way of doing something at the last minute or not having to put an effort forth and attempting to try writing on their own. If I was in a situation like that, I would just rather not even do the writing. Getting a zero or an incomplete would be much better than the punishment that comes with stealing someone elses work, taking credit for it, and then getting caught.

Unit 3 Blog Post

Hi visitors! I am choosing to discuss being an online student. I am really enjoying it because it is giving me the opportunity to be flexible with a very hectic schedule. It's very easy to follow because no matter what, the deadlines are all the same, all information that is needed is in one convenient place, and the professors are all very easy to get along with. I have never liked the classroom setting. It all started when I was a kid. I grew up with 3 younger brothers and we were not exactly what you would call rich. We were on government assistance until I was old enough to get a job! My mother made our clothes until we started attending school where we were to wear uniforms. I was teased a lot about my hair and shoes and it never ceased even through high school. By that time I didn't like school, but that is a totally different story!

Even though it has been said that being in an online environment is harder than actually being in a classroom, I beg to differ. I enjoy the freedom of not attending class everyday or worrying if my roommate is going to be on her phone all night and keep me from getting valuable sleep. Even though I have 5 children, I am able to study around their schedule. Since I know my deadlines ahead of time, I know when and what I need to study in order to make it on time.

To me, an online environment is much easier to deal with especially if you are not a fan of a classroom setting.
